Just some neat stuff! Media and other misc.

CBC Radio 1 - January 2023

I chatted with Marcy Markusa early in the morning to discuss the advent of AI generated art, and the impact it is having on the art community. Tough topic! But Marcy is a wonderful interviewer and I think it went well!

The time I couldn't cut a ribbon and it was on the news

The time I was interviewed by CNN for drawing a fat cat

A FAT CAT NAMED CINDERBLOCK WINS OVER THE INTERNET WITH ITS HEARTWARMING WORKOUT ROUTINE
-FERNANDO ALFONSO III, CNN

“‘I think she’s going viral because she may be the most relatable cat I’ve ever seen,” Plante told CNN. “Who hasn’t cried on a treadmill at some point in their lives?’”

A commission for the Winnipeg Goldeyes! The first really “big deal” commission in my career. It went out to over 700 season ticket holders and will be hanging in the Goldeyes office for years to come. Just so cool.

CBC Radio 1 - April 2019

I got to visit the CBC Radio 1 studio and sit with Ismaila Alfa for a few minutes back in April. What a delightful human being. My goal was to make him laugh because I love his laugh, so mission accomplished!

You’d think after being on the radio so often, running my own show while working the board and being totally on my own, speaking to thousands of people, I would have been right at home… but holy smokes I was so nervous. It was a great experience. Thank you Ismaila!

ACE BURPEE’S 100 MOST FASCINATING MANITOBANS 2018

Instant career highlight: I made Ace Burpee’s 2018 list of Most Fascinating Manitobans! Having read the list every year for a decade, this was very exciting for me. Love to be lumped in with people such as “man who pulled another man from a burning vehicle” and “one of 11 Canadians to have ever received a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford University”.

A copy of the paper is hanging on my wall above my desk.

A painting of mine signed by Dustin Byfuglien!

CBC Radio 1 - September 2022

A quick chat with Shannah-Lee Vidal about the Cool Streets Winnipeg project and the temporary street murals I have painted around Winnipeg.

ARTIST ON A MISSION

ALEX PLANTE COUNTERS NEGATIVE PERCEPTIONS OF WINNIPEG THROUGH HER ART
– DECLAN SCHROEDER

A feature piece in the Winnipeg Free Press! Two pages! About ME! What a world.

The City of Winnipeg licensed my artwork to put on sweaters to give out as Christmas gifts to all the important people (or so they told me) Here is Mayor Brian Bowman out at a walk with his family wearing his!!
