ART ROUNDUP: APRIL 2024

This post has images! If they do not show up for you, please click through! Happy Temperatures in the Positives, everyone! There's uhhhhh... a lotta blue and brown this month, now that I look at it all together like this. I guess it's a bit of a theme. This is the first year I've tried to do some #PleinAirpril, a monthly challenge where artists do some painting from life every day, which I definitely did not do, but I did some days! I actually really wanted to do it in acrylics at first, but that dream quickly died because first it was too cold to paint outside with my paints, and then it got too busy to take my paints outside, and then I was too busy to take my iPad outside at all and ended up just drawing from photos lol. But I had fun regardless! Even if the subject matter was... less than inspiring for most of this lousy slushy drab garbage spring month. But that's kind of the fun part of the challenge, right? I feel like the folks that live in the mountains or by the ocean or somewhere that looks gorgeous all the time kind of miss out on the exercise of trying to make the mundane beautiful, or at least eye-catching. I also just love breaking down what I see and trying to make sense of it on the page, while still maintaining a sense of personal style and flair. I hope to be…

Journal Comics – April 2024

This post has images! If they do not show up for you, please click through! Hi-ho! Happy last full week of April! We are all hurtling through time at an unimaginable pace and before we know it we will all return to dust. It's my birthday on Thursday! I'm going to be 33 years old. In a few months I will hit 11 years of living in Winnipeg which is the longest I have ever lived in one place ever. I never thought I'd be here but here I am, and I love it. I was at the Lucky Girl Pop Up last weekend and I had such a great time. Thank you so much to everyone who came out!! It was so great, in fact, that I decided to work on my birthday and set up a table at another small market on the 25th! I'll be hanging out in the Richardson Building Concourse with a bunch of other vendors at the Made Here MB POP! Open House from 11 AM-2 PM. I really hope to see you there, those of you who are willing and able! accurate representation of how it feels to do a good market In other news, for those of you who have been unfortunate enough to be around me over the last week or so, you'll know that I hit my head at the playground and have been working through a mild concussion. You'll know this, because I absolutely will not shut the fuck…

April Recipes: PORTOBELLO CAPRESE SALAD + BALSAMIC GLAZE

This post has images! If they do not show up for you, please click through! So I've been doing calendars for a few years in a row now, and not once have I made it through without some kind of error or typo. Most of them are not egregious (although last year I did accidentally give November 31 days. Didn't throw December off so it was okay, just embarrassing), but it does set me on edge every time I flip to a new month, knowing that I may be revealing a new stupid thing I did that a couple hundred people will be looking at every day for the next 28-31 days. I did recipe calendars this year, and April is this tasty little dish. However, I must note that I adapted the calendar recipes from a document that I've formatted for an eventual cookbook I'd like to share, and thus have made a small error in the ingredients. I do not have a "sauces" section in my calendar. I am a FOOL. An absolute MAROON! I noticed a couple weeks ago but haven't had a chance to issue a press release until now! So I thought I'd share two recipes today. One being April's recipe and another being the missing balsamic glaze! Bone appateet! It’s especially nice in the late summer when you can get fresh tomatoes and…
